"Wedding Ivory Tobacco Rasp Mounted On A Wooden Base Made Circa 1720/1730"
"Embarkation for Kythera": rare finely carved ivory wedding rasp presenting a couple on pilgrimage to Compostela.A cartouche with the arms of France under the fringes of a canopy and another of two flaming hearts surrounded by various plant motifs and scallops (symbol of pilgrimages).
This “open” tobacco grater was later in the 19th century set in a wooden base in order to preserve the memory of this union.
Dimensions: - height of the whole: 27 cm - total height of the rasp: 18 cm.
France datable around 1720/1730.
