"Gien Inkwell With Bérain Decor"
This Gien earthenware inkwell dates from the end of the 19th century. It is decorated with motifs in the style of Moustiers called "à la Bérain". This inkwell with three cups, with lids ending in three contiguous shells. It rests on four stocky feet and is embellished with lion's snouts on the sides. Decor "à la Bérain" named after the famous 17th century designer, engraver and ornamentalist. The decorations, particularly detailed and neat were made in shades of blue on a white background. Our inkwell uses music trophies, foliage and valance as decoration. The inkwell is signed with a 1871 stamp. For more information, do not hesitate to contact us.
