Inro Carved Bamboo flag

Object description :

"Inro Carved Bamboo"
Magnificent example of Japanese art for this accessory of the Kimono in bamboo wood carved in high reliefs of animated scene. These small utility boxes served as a pocket for the Kimono and were originally used to carry with you the sealing seals as well as vermilion wax, medicines etc. They were hung on the belt of the Kimono by a cord, to which was usually attached a netsuke that prevented it from slipping. The Inro are made of compartments that fit on top of each other, joined together by the same cord. From the end of the 16th century, Japanese artists will sublimate this everyday object to transform it into a precious work of art, the decoration of which reflects Japanese mythology and imagination. Since when the Japanese adopted the Western costume, the Inro have become valuable collectibles.
