"The marshes of Viva, surroundings of Porticcio"

Oil on canvas,
Signed lower left,
Titled by the artist on a label stuck to the back of the canvas

Beautiful, bright work with strong contrast, from Corsican painter Lucien PERI who represents a view of the marshes of Viva in the vicinity of Porticcio in Corsica.

Our painting is similar to the work of Lucien Peri "Marine à Porticcio" (Donation Ollandini 2007) which is kept at the Palais Fesch in Ajaccio.

Lucien Peri made his first entry to the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts in 1910. After 1920, he distinguished himself each year at the exhibitions of this society and in 1935 obtained the gold medal of the Salon with Les lavandières de Porticcio. Peri painted the most famous places, as well as the most isolated and natural places of Corsica. Lucien Peri's painting was distributed by various means: lithographs, chromos, photographs and posters for the PLM company (Paris Lyon Méditerranée).
The artist also illustrates books: La Corse by Raoul Blanchard, in 1926 and Corse by Lorenzi de Bradi, in 1936. His watercolors and paintings can be found in magazines such as L'Illustration or La Corse Touristique.

Landscape painter, follower of fieldwork, Lucien Peri draws in pencil and grease pencil, sometimes in charcoal or watercolor. These works are then repeated in the workshop to develop works according to the desired format. Lucien Peri is distinguished by his technique, he easily passes from the lightness of color and manner in his watercolors to darker and more impasto touches for his oils although they were often very small. However, all of his works are characterized by an unfinished appearance and great speed of execution. Journalist Martin Baretti writes moreover that Peri was "an incomparable landscaper whose art lies under the reign of speed". (Palais Fesch, Ajaccio)

Nb: An old little repainted in the sky is to be noted.

Dimensions: 46 x 61 cm without frame and 56.5 x 71.5 cm with its original gilded wood frame.
