Object description :

"Geographical Dictionary Of La Martinière, In Six Volumes"
This reference work by La Martinière is the "Great geographical, historical and critical dictionary" of the time. It is recognized for its completeness and the precious detail of its texts, written by a man who served several royal courts in Europe in the 18th century.
After the first editions in 6 and 9 volumes published in 1726 in Holland and in 10 volumes published in 1749 in Venice, this final version, completed and corrected, appeared in 1768 in Paris, published by Les Libraires Associés.

Born in Dieppe in 1662 and died in The Hague on June 19, 1746, Antoine-Augustin Bruzen de La Martinière is a French historian and compiler. La Martinière studied in Paris, where his uncle inspired him with a taste for historical and geographical studies. Thanks to the munificence of his patrons, he lived at the court of Duke Frederick William of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, then that of François Farnese, Duke of Parma and Piacenza. He was also the geographer of King Philip V of Spain and of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

The covers are rigid, with some slit spines and other parts of the binding worn, but the interiors are in good condition.
