Coloquinte engraved gourd enhanced in black, captioned,
scene representing a gendarme in a cap killing a smuggler wrongdoer.
Popular Art Work, Corsica? Late 19th / early 20th century.
The gendarme with his cap is armed with a revolver and holds a bayonet in his left hand, he shoots a brigand who is holding his head and whose cap falls backwards while he drops the pistol he was holding in his hand left. The bandit also has another gun in his belt and a long knife.
A banner with a legend is engraved at the level of the two handles in fine braided cord: "Gendarme surprising a bandit and killing him stiff".
At the ends, a leafy decor. On the thinner end, a hole sealed with a small stopper allowed it to be filled with water and to drink from it.
Really in good condition.
