Object description :

"Wooden Netsuke - Fukusuke"
Netsuke in katabori wood (carved in three dimensions) representing Fukusuke who is a highly regarded figure in Japanese folklore.
Indeed, Fukusuke means "the lucky man". He is the embodiment of a wealthy 18th-century Kyoto merchant, Daimonjiya, who was known to be generous with those in need. He has a particularly recognizable physique: his head is disproportionately large compared to his body. He is plump and his traditional hairstyle is called chonmage. His head is shaved except for a lock at the top. His earlobes are also bigl.

Representations of Fukusuke are considered good luck charms.

Fukusuke is sitting cross-legged and is holding an open fan in his hands. His face is smiling as well.
