Object description :

"Great German Hunting Sword"
Large German hunting sword XVI-XVIIth century, called "Schweinschwert". Solingen Blade.
BLADE: Long and strong blade in the form of a long, blunt section, which towards the tip widens into a very sharp leaf shape. A square hole at the base of the cutting part is intended to receive a piece of deer antler, which prevents too deep penetration into the body of the animal. On almost all hunting swords from this period, this organic part has not been preserved.
On one side "-: - SOLINGEN -: - ME -: - FECIT" and on the other "-: - IOHANNES -: - ME: -: FECIT -: -"
The name of Iohannes or Iohannis can correspond to several swormakers of this period.
Near the hilt, on each side, smith mark in the shape of a fleur-de-lys.
Total length of the blade = 114 cm Length of the cutting part: 27.5 cm
GUARD: Cross bar terminated on each side by a quillon in the shape of a flower with 6 petals
POMMEL: in the shape of a bulb with 6 facets
GRIP : covered with leather cracked by the time. Most probably the original leather.
Beautiful sword, typically Germanic
