"Who feather a, war a". The validity of this famous epigraph by Voltaire is wonderfully illustrated by a masterful image sketched by Raymond Savignac in 1978. For a poster on the occasion of the exhibition marking the bicentenary of the death of the philosopher, organized by the National Library , Savignac represented Voltaire as a fencer, wielding a gigantic feather instead of a sword.
Raymond Savignac, commonly known as Savignac, born in 1907 in Paris and died in 2002 in Trouville-sur-Mer, is a French poster artist.
We owe him in particular many advertising posters which are now part of the French cultural heritage.
The common thread of his works is effective simplicity and a touch of humor.
