Object description :

"A Beechwood Regence Armchairs Pair Early 18th Century Circa 1720-1730."
Pair of beech wood armchairs, carved and waxed; high and wide straight back, slightly inclined and curved in the upper part, wide, low and very comfortable seat. The armrests are straight with padded cuffs. The hands of the armrests are very flared with winding up foliage as well as voluble moldings in elegy. The assembly is wrapped in the lower part of the backrest and rest on a support set back from the front and a third of the way in the side cross member. Belt scalloped on all sides, all in curves and against protruding curves, delimited on the outer periphery of a generous elegy molding with strong overhang punctuated by windings in line with the cuffs and hands. The whole is elegantly embellished with large flat concave shells for the side parts and an acanthus and shell cartouche accented with valance with scrolls enriched with natural foliage. The whole resting on a base devoid of starter which elegantly lightens the slightly arched base punctuated by small deer hooves. This model of armchair testifies to the evolution of the siege under the Regency. From the great century, we keep the high, wide, sloping backrests fully covered with fabric as well as the ample seats, but these elements are combined with novelties due to the trends started at the twilight of the reign of the Sun King. Less solemnity and rigor in favor of more comfort more softness; philosophy dear to the beginning of the century. It should be noted the great care taken in connecting elements of irreproachable quality. Balance, nervousness, elegance, quality and comfort are the most appropriate terms for this very beautiful lounge chair. At the start of the 18th century, quality seats followed the evolution of trends and criteria for the fair sex, the pair that we are presenting to you is the perfect example. Wider and lower in the seat with the regal retractable console, these seats are consuls so that these ladies can sit comfortably there without fear or worry of offending the good salience that their delicate toilets require. - Observations: Excellent condition, use and maintenance restorations such as; total repair of the fittings and straps in accordance with the rules of the art in force at the beginning of the century; in particular the backs of the files are assembled and upholstered in paintings and not simply hung with fabrics. Each of them has undergone a complete flattening in order to stabilize them without sticking them and a deep fungicide treatment before waxing. Period: 18th century around 1720-1730. Dimensions Total height 107.5cm Seat height 41cm Overall arm width 62cm Seat width 66cm Seat depth 60cm
