Reprinted for the book published in 1930 by Cranach Press, Weimar, Germany, on a set of 80 woodcuts. Published by Count Harry Kressler (1868-1937). Edition of the book at 325 copies. Considered to be one of the most daring and ambitious works of the 20th century.

One of the most emblematic compositions of Edward Gordon Craig's work, which will be used, among other things, as a poster for the exhibition of woodcuts presented at York University from 10 February to 5 March 1982.

Edward Gordon Craig, also known as Gordon Craig, born in London on 16 January 1872 and died in Vence on 29 July 1966, was an influential British actor, director, theorist and set designer. He was one of the very first modern stage designers of the 20th century.
The son of Shakespearean actress Ellen Terry and architect and set designer Edward William Godwin, brother of director, theatre director and costume designer Edith Craig, Edward grew up in the theatre world. As a child, Craig worked as an actor, playing Hamlet in 1894. He then turned to directing and radical theatrical design, producing a powerful and powerful set design. minimalist for the Hamlet of the Moscow Art Theatre in 1911-12. The small wooden figurines used to model these sets became the inspiration for the woodcuts in the book published by Cranach Press.
