Statuette/ Tiki made of wood from the Marquesas Islands. Beautiful carved figure representing a Tiki. Tiki designating statuettes showing the gods and also meaning "human image" In Oceanian Art, small tiki were used in magical practices.
This Tiki stands in a posture reminiscent of the dances of Polynesia. He has his legs bent, arms folded forward or on the belly. Like most tribal representations, his large-eyed head is disproportionate to the body. it protects the home, repels bad energy and dangers. Picasso, one of the greatest artists of the XX th century and a great admirer of the so-called «first» arts, treasured a Marquisian Tiki.
