"Saint Stephen Spain XVIIth Century"
RELIQUARY STATUE REPRESENTING SAINT ETIENNE SPANISH SCHOOL XVIITH CENTURY. SUPERB ORIGINAL POLYCHROMY. HE IS CLOTHED IN A DALMATIC LITURGICAL CLOTHING OF THE DEACONS. IN A RICH GOLD BACKGROUND FABRIC DECORATED WITH LILIES. IN FRONT IN THE CENTER SEE PHOTOS SMALL CUT PART DESIGNED TO RECEIVE A RELIC. IN THE LEFT HAND HE IS HOLDING THE GOSPEL ON WHICH STONES ARE PLACED. THE RIGHT HAND SHOULD HOLD A PALM, SYMBOL OF MARTYRS. SAINT ETIENNE IS THE FIRST DEACON AND FIRST MARTYR OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH. IT WAS LAPIDE.FETE ON DECEMBER 26th. NB: A SMALL PART IS MISSING FROM THE BEND OF THE RIGHT ARM. REFERENCE: 21/1
