In a wide valley dominated by a white city with flat roofs, a church at its feet and closed on the other side by the ruins of a fort, walk behind a donkey men and women carrying loads.An indefatigable traveler, Achille Fouquier brought back sketches, anecdotes and observations from his many trips, collected in several books that were published. Whether from the Basque Country (he was mayor of Saint-Jean-de-Luz), Italy, Greece, the Balkans or the Middle East, his drawings taken from life are testimony to the history of these regions
