Beautiful icon of Saint John the Baptist represented as an angel of the desert. He is holding a cup containing Christ - symbol of the Eucharist. In very good condition, this icon comes from central Russia (Volga region) and dates from the last quarter of the 19th century (circa 1880). It is painted with tempera (paint based on egg yolk and natural pigments) on a gilded wood panel. The icon is sold with its certificate of authenticity.
