Large and splendid Greek icon of the Virgin of Iveron. This representation of Mary takes its name from the Orthodox monastery of Iveron located in the Monastic Republic of Mount Athos. The icon is painted with tempera (paint based on natural pigments and egg yolk) in powerful and warm tones. The halos and the background are entirely gilded with gold leaf - a symbol of divine light.
