Japanese inspired pot-cover.
Galvanic copper and bronze with a red, black, gold and silver patina.
French work of the 19th century.
Showing scenes of Japanese inspiration with a peacock in front of a cherry tree on one side and an insect flying from a tree trunk on the other.
This French work is close to Emile Reiber's drawings for the Christofle house and is part of a incresing interest in Japanese art in the last quarter of the 19th century, fostered by the Universal Exhibitions in which artists to discovered a new art form.
