Subjects in silver and gilded bronze with mercury. Threatening Love and Psyche Hiding the Arc of Love, created by Etienne Maurice Falconet (1716-1791). Fluted base and circular terrace in white marble. Period late 18th or early 19th century. (wear to silvering)

Threatening Love; Commissioned by Mme de Pompadour (1721-1764). Plaster model at the Salon of 1755. (Pshyché or the Nymph was created by Falconet in 1761 to form the while). Block of marble requested on October 15, 1755 by the sculptor from the Marquis de Marigny (1727-1781), Director General of the King's Buildings. Salon of 1757. Attested in the gardens of the Hôtel d'Evreux (current Palais de l'Elysée) in May 1761. Acquired at an undetermined date by Thérèse Tallien (1773-1835), owner in 1799 of a hotel at 186 rue de Babylone, who became Countess of Caraman and then Princess of Chimay in 1805. Acquired with the hotel under the Restoration by M. Rougevin who gave it to his brother Auguste. Bequest of Auguste Rougevin (1792-1878) in memory of his son Auguste-Joseph (1831-1856), October 20, 1877. Entered the Louvre on January 23, 1879.
