"Alfred Lombard (1884-1973) Modern Provençal Landscape"
Nice modern painting by Marseille artist Alfred Lombard representing a modern landscape. The work, an oil on canvas in good condition, is framed in a modern frame which measures 45 cm by 62 cm and 38 cm by 55 cm. It is signed lower right. On the back, a stamp stating: "Alfred Lombard, authenticated by his children". After exhibiting his works at the Paris Salon of 1910, he organized with Pierre Girieud the Salon de Mai in Marseille in 1912 and 1913 in their joint workshop at no12 quai de Rive-Neuve in the Old Port of Marseille. In particular, he worked with the architect Pierre Patout in 1925 on the layout and design of the interiors of the large liners of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and in particular the Ile de France and Atlantique liners. This collaboration will reach its peak in 1935 with the liner Normandie, an undisputed and unequaled masterpiece of French Art Deco from the 1930s.
