"Renaissance Oil On Panel, 16th C. Antwerp School"
Charming oil on panel featuring a myhtological subject, famous during Renaissance: Satyr seducing Venus with CupidIn a bedroom, sitting on the bed, a satyr is seducing a beautiful naked Venus by offering her jewels and precious objects. A Cupid kneeling at the foot of the bed looks at them disappointed, his bow broken, his arrows broken, his quiver on the ground. While the satyr embraces his beautiful lady by presenting to her with a pearl necklace adorned with a large ruby. On the front of the bed, the jewels are exposed, the casket filled with gold and precious stones, a nautilus with a gold mount, and a ewer. The carved wood bed in the shape of sphinges is equipped with heavy red velvet curtains which creates a theatrical atmosphere. A large embrasure to the right of the bed illuminates the room and thus forms an opening towards the distant horizon with turquoise green hues. The muscled bodies of the two lovers testify to the research on human anatomy during renaissance.
