Man trying to remove a thorn in the palm of a young lady's hand. Signed lower right Henri Decoene. Oil on mahogany panel. Golden frame and openwork in the corners. Jean Henri de Coene 1798 -1866 Belgian painter. Painter of genre and portraits. Elèce de David, then dJoesph Paelinck in Brussels. He participated in the Paris Salon between 1837 and 1855. Professor at the School of Fine Arts in Brussels. His genre scenes, painted with meticulousness, sometimes show a taste for Flemish farce. ref. : E. Bénézit
