"King Buddha Maravijaya, Shan Province, Burma, 18th Century"
King Buddha Maravijaya, Shan province, dry lacquer with traces of gilding, 18th century.
Buddha seated cross-legged on a plinth, his right leg bent over the left and performing with his right hand, the "mudra" of the taking of the earth witness. This gesture symbolizes the victory of the awakened one over Mara, prince of desires and personification of death.
He is dressed in a monastic robe and princely jewelry (bracelet, earring, breastplate and crown)
The cranial protuberance (usnisa) is surmounted by a point in the shape of a rounded stuppa, the protuberance is missing (see photos).
