India, 19th-20th century.Beautiful statuette representing Garuda, vahana of the God Vishnu, in an anthropo-zoomorphic form. The wings spread out in its back and the treatment of the nose and mouth link it to its raptor aspect. Here Garuda is shown kneeling, hands clasped together in front of the chest, torso, and legs entwined with snakes.
