Iranian Namakdan wool, 1950-60. Very good state. Rare.

The namakdan or namek donnh was used to transport salt. It was protected inside, to avoid the contact of salt with the wool. Namakdans can be used as wall decoration.
The territory of the Shahsavans lies to the south and west of the Caspian Sea, in Iranian Azerbaijan. Made up of Kurdish, Persian, Turkish, Tajik and Caucasian ethnic groups, the Shahsavan confederation was formed under the reign of the Safavid ruler Shah Abbas (reign 1587-1629).
Weaving technique: soumak. Beautiful colors: raspberry and turmeric.
