Picturesque and colorful, this painting painted in oil on a wooden panel by the Provencal painter Joseph Milon. The work framed in a light carved wooden frame measures 28 cm by 37 cm and 24 cm by 33 cm without the frame. It represents the interior of a Provencal kitchen. It is signed lower left. Joseph Milon began his studies at the Saint-Pierre minor seminary in Luxembourg at the Rovère palace in Avignon and continued at the Catholic college in Aix-en-Provence, where he befriended Charles Maurras. He then followed the courses of the law faculty of Aix-en-Provence, and became a lawyer, then, in 1895, admitted to the court of appeal of this city. Around 1910 he gave up his position to devote himself solely to painting, sculpture and a little engraving. At the same time as his law studies, he studied at the Aix-en-Provence School of Fine Arts under the painter Honoré Gibert, curator of the Granet Museum. He took lessons from Joseph François Villevieille for drawing and Henri Pontier for sculpture. He was also influenced by the director of the Marseille School of Fine Arts, the painter Alphonse Moutte. Joseph Milon exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1923, 1933, 1934 and 1939, as well as at the Salon de Versailles (mention in 1911) and at the Salon de Lyon. He frequented Marcel Provence, Henri Dobler, Édouard Ducros, Achille Emperaire, Louis-Gautier, Joseph Hurard, Cyrille Rougier and Philippe Solari. His workshop was located in the Aurengo building at 6 rue des Tanneurs in Aix-en-Provence. Works in the public collections Aix-en-Provence: Granet museum: Nu couché. Paul-Arbaud museum: Maison des 3 Arceaux in Pertuis, 1931, watercolor.
