Jean-Andrè Lepaute (1720-1789) together with his brother Jean-Baptiste Lepaute (1727-
1802) were the founders of the most important dynasty of French watchmakers, holders
of the title of Horologer du Roi.
Jean-Baptiste took over the management of Mason in 1774.
Their clients include Louis XV, Louis XVI, Madame du Barry, the Duke of Bourbon,
Charles III of Bourbon, Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, and Charles IV of Bourbon.
Lepaute was the inventor of several patents. Among the most important we remember that of the "seconds
at the center ”, like ours. The first example was presented to Louis XV.
