"Shako Of Officer Of The National Guard Mle 1848. Second Republic."
Cardboard barrel covered with black felt trimmed at the top with a braid in silver trimmings, and at the bottom with a black leather bourdalou. Black patent leather shell. Metal cockade stamped with a radiant sun, tricolor lacquered. Black patent leather visor, green waxed inside. Frontal plate in silvered copper representing the rooster with outstretched wings placed on a globe, on a background of bundle of flags and bundle of lictors with crossed hands and ribbon bearing the inscription “FRENCH REPUBLIC” Silver plated copper chinstrap each composed of a round rosette stamped with a flaming bomb (also called grenade). Double pompom in scarlet wool. Leather inner cap cut into 8 wolf teeth. The inside of the barrel is lined with scarlet paper. In very good condition. Size 56/57 cm.
