Superb mastery of light and sky. Beautiful touch.
According to the information on the back of the painting, it was framed in August 1947.
More precisely, this is a view of Frauenchiemsee, also called Fraueninsel (Women's Island / Ladies' Island), which is an island in the Chiemsee, a lake nicknamed the "Bavarian Sea".
The tip of the island, which can be seen in the painting, is occupied by a convent of Benedictine nuns founded by Duke Tassilon III of Bavaria in 782; it is this presence of nuns that earned it the name Ladies' Island.
