"XII-xiiith Rare Large Medieval Pitcher Ptd Crest"
Stunning, very large and curious medieval terracotta pitcher, with relief pastillage lines and painted green crest on each side. Excavation patina with significant traces of concressions inside the collar.Found in a pond or mare, as sediments and concressions might suggest? !!!
Condition:I ve detected any defects or anomalies suggesting a possible restoration (-which could nevertheless be understandable regard sizes !). The concressions inside, for example, attest well that the pitcher top is in its original state. The handles and collar also seem miraculously unscathed.
Maybe Saintonge production, please see the last photos for similar medieval terracotta designs (The Jean Yves HUGUONIOT book "Terres de Saintonge", Somogy edition in 2003, is the main refrence on this thema.
