Nikolaj Sokolov (Moscow 1903 - Moscow 2000)
He was a Russian visual artist. He was a member of the Koekryniksy collective, which created cartoons that attacked fascist leaders such as Hitler, among others. He also worked as a painter of landscapes, portraits and still lifes.
Around 1924, he produced political prints for newspapers and (satirical) magazines such as Crocodile with Porfiri Krylov and Mikhail Koeprijanov. Especially during the Great Patriotic War, the group made posters and caustic drawings, which were thrown like cards behind the German front.
Sokolov studied in Vchutmas, where he met the other members of the group. He has received several state awards in his country. In 1932 he took part in an exhibition in Leningrad and in the period 1946-1955 in Moscow. His work can be found among others at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
