René Seyssaud (1867-1952) Alley In Provence

Superbly framed oil on canvas by Provençal Master René Seyssaud (1867-1952). The work in very good condition, signed lower left, measures in its frame 63 cm by 50 cm and 46 cm by 33 without the frame. It represents a light effect in a lively village street, certainly in Villes sur Auzon where the artist painted. A certificate of authenticity from Madame Claude Jeanne Bonnici, authoritative expert and author of numerous books on the artist will be issued with the work, which it dates from 1910. Precursor of fauvism, member of the New School of Avignon, in 1892, Seyssaud sent to the Indépendants as well as to the Champs de Mars. From its foundation, he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, at Parc de Bouteville in 1897, and in 1899, at Vollard. He gets all the success he hoped for. His art provokes the strongest reactions in the press. Because, it brings, as a critic of the time writes "An entirely new note". These are, said another, speaking of his paintings, spontaneous things which owe nothing to anyone and therefore should be appreciated by those who love the bravery, the energetic candor of a man who has never had master and does not want to have a boss. "Vollard offers Seyssaud a contract, but he out of loyalty to his friend and Marseille merchant François Honnorat refuses. In 1901, every year he exhibited at Bernheim Jeune. The latter, like Vollard offers him to take his interests in hand. For the Museums of Marseille (1908, 1919), Lyon (1924), Avignon (1920), Prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône (1933), Mairie de Saint-Chamas (1909), National Museum of Modern Art (1957). -He is represented at the Petit Palais, at the Museum of Modern Art, at the Léon Dierx Museum (Reunion Island), in Moscow. Also in Dijon, Nîmes, Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Grenoble, Montpellier, Albi, etc ... He had various medals and awards.
