Ary Scheffer (1795-1858) French painter of Dutch origin Master of French romantic painting, mystical and dreamy inspiration. Arrived in France in 1813, he studied in the studio of Pierre-Narcisse Guérin, and his career began in earnest in 1819 with the exhibition at the Salon of his painting "Patriotic dedication of six bourgeois of Calais" From that moment he turns to Romanticism, Byron and Goethe inspire him, he draws from their works subjects which meet with great favor with the public. He will also be an accomplished portrait painter. It goes without saying that romantic music inspires him, so he will have to do the portraits of Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt. Retired in the last ten years of his life, he produced a lot and it was only after his death that his production would be exhibited in a posthumous exhibition. 125 x 84 cm with the frame
