This portrait of a dog is made in profile, the head is raised, most certainly towards its master, awaiting a reward, we could have called it "the petition". Edmond Borchard, was born July 28, 1848 in Bordeaux, he died March 21, 1922 in Paris, he is a French landscape and marine painter, he is a pupil of Cabanel at the School of Fine Arts. He exhibited from 1870 to 1921 at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member. He obtained the bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 and that of 1900, and a second class medal at the salon of 1889. He was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1914. He is mentioned in "Les Petits Masters of Painting ”by Gérald Schurr who classifies him among animal artists. Two of his works are kept in the museums of Bordeaux and Nantes. Oil on canvas in its original frame in wood and gilded stucco. Some small alterations to the gilding on the bottom of the frame, signed lower left Borchard. Dimensions: View 39 cm x 30.5 cm.
