"Portrait Of A Young Woman - English School Circa 1800"Portrait of a young woman
English school circa 1800
H. 65 cm; W. 54 cm
Oil on canvas
This elegant portrait of a young woman takes us back to the first ten years of the English nineteenth century. Smiling and with a dreamy look, this typically romantic portrait is a charming image. The red shawl, thrown over one shoulder and passing again in front of the model with his right arm, brings a contrast and warmth to the composition by its superposition with the fine white garment.
This canvas certainly has a Swedish origin, since a cartel on the back of the frame, takes up an identification of our character as Augusta Löwenhielm von Fersen, cousin of the famous Axel von Fersen, close to Marie-Antoinette. However, at the time of our painting, this illustrious woman of the Swedish court would be 45 years old.
