"Lord Henry Seymour"
Watercolor and gouache, titled on the back, (1850), 41 x 35 cm., Rosewood frame and boxwood fillets. Equestrian portrait of Lord Henry Seymour (1805-1856), founder of the Jockey Club (in 1836) and its first president. If he leaves the memory of a famous dandy in his own right, his real glory comes from his considerable action for the development of horse racing in France, in the first half of the 19th century. Our gouache watercolor can be attributed to Cécile Delessert (1825-1887), Countess of Nadaillac, watercolourist. Slight pitting and stains.
