Nature morte aux poires et au pichet blanc

A Post Impressionist still-life painting of a white pitcher and assorted fruit by Jean Stival. Signed bottom left, artist’s label verso and presented in its original frame.

Stival studied under Cormon before exhibiting at the Salons des Independants and the Autumn Salon. He was awarded the Legion of Honour in 1937. A retrospective of his work was held in 1945 which featured many still-life paintings. His work ig held in many museums and galleries including, London, New York, Saint Petersburg, Madrid, Florence, Chicago, Cairo and Moscow.

The painting is in excellent condition. The frame has a replacement gilt slip and minor restoration to the textured paint finish.
