SEYSSAUD René (1867 - 1952)

"Animated street in Provence"

Watercolor, gouache and charcoal on paper,
Signed lower left,
Cartouche frame with the name of the artist,

Beautiful work of the artist representing a lively street with two cats in the foreground and a character in the background. The work certainly represents a street in old Avignon or a village such as Allauch, Saint-Chamas, Aurel… where the artist liked to put his easel.

Pupil of Pierre Grivolas at the Ecole des Beaux-arts d'Avignon, his career took shape when he met François Honnorat: oil broker and Monticelli collectors. He participates in numerous Salons in Paris, in the provinces and abroad. However, he will remain faithful to his native Provence.
This precursor of fauvism will install during his life his workshop in Ville sur Auzon, Aurel and Saint-Chamas.

Size: 30 x 23 cm without frame and 48 x 40 cm with its regency style gilt wood frame.
