Object description :

"Clock Borne With Bust Of Louis XVII"
Pendulum terminal with the bust of Louis XVII End of the 18th century / beginning of the 19th century Signed on the dial "Mathieu à Rouen" In molded and sculpted marble decorated with elements in chiseled and gilded bronze Louis XVI period To be revised, the balance is missing. 'a bust of Louis XVII in bronze with brown patina End of the 18th century / beginning of the 19th century 47 x 28.5 x 12 cm The mystery hovers above this unique clock. Was it "born" thus or was the bust of Louis XVII added at the request of a legitimist at the beginning of the 19th century? These two assumptions delight us. However, the proportions are perfectly harmonious and elegant and make this object a true work of art steeped in history. The sculptor of the portrait remains unknown but we have known this image since 1790, when similar bisque busts left the Sèvre factory. Later, the artist Eugène-Antoine Aizelin (1821-1902) will be inspired by it to publish a bronze very similar to ours but deprived of the decoration of the Order of the Holy Spirit.
