"Officer's Sword, First Empire"
OFFICER'S SWORD, First Empire. Gilded bronze frame. Guard chiseled with laurel and oak branches and a palmette. Pommel decorated with sparkling Jupiter spindles and oak and laurel branches and palm leaves. Wooden fuze with mother-of-pearl plates, side parts in gilded brass representing a series of intertwined rings. Golden brass ferrule. Keyboard decorated in relief with a god from Greek mythology seated on a rich military trophy. On either side of the decoration of the keyboard, two elements have been ground, probably during the First Restoration. Remains of scarlet cloth tie. Triangular blade 82.7 cm long, engraved on its first third with floral motifs on a gold and blued background. Without scabbard. Fairly good condition, oxidation on the blade, gilding largely present and of very high quality. France. First Empire.
