The central micromosaic panel depicting a mother hen and her chicks within a grassy landscape with rocks and plants in the foreground, within a malachite border and brocatelle marble outer border, the black marble top set into a wooden surround.The subject is after a painting by Johann Wenzel Peter (1745-1829) now in the Vatican Museums.
