Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, bronze bust "Le Fumeur" ("The Smoker") signed and dated: JB Carpeaux 1869, on a red Levanto marble base.

Provenance: Sotheby's New York, Important Old Master Paintings and Sculpture, 31 January 2013, lot 409 sold $6,250.

A similar model in terracotta and described as "Le Fumeur" is in the collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts (acc. no. 75.86).
