Signed lower right Born of a family of industrialists and collectors, he was very early aware of art , but also oriented towards industry by his father who ran the Dolfus-Mieg company. It was only after the war of 1870, during which he distinguished himself brilliantly, that he was able to pursue the career of his choice and become a painter. In 1871, he followed the advice of Louis Français, before becoming a disciple and friend of Jean Jacques Henner. The art of fade taught by Henner has greatly influenced Koechlin's art which applies to translate the charm of the evening, the mysterious melancholy of twilight, the intense poetry of moonlight on the canals of Venice to sleep, the penetrating impression of the autumnal evenings of Alsace.
