Terracotta bust of a woman from the revolutionary period by Martin de Grenoble, 1791François-Joseph Martin dit Martin de Grenoble (1761-1804), student of Pajou, was active during the French revolution. He is known for example for his bust of Marat, who was his friend, Camille Desmoulins and the composer Glück.
His busts are a precious testimony of the outfits during the revolutionary period. As such, our bust of a woman, original terracotta, is a good example of a quality woman in the early 1790s.
Signed "Martin fecit" and dated "year 1791".
Accidents - chipping, and restorations - patina.
