"Lintel Malagan"
Ceremonial lintel Malagan, New Ireland, Papua New Guinea. In wood, carved with two fish (bonito) facing sharks, the whole painted with natural pigments. These sculptures were used during the so-called "varam malagan" ceremony intended to lift the taboos after the period of mourning (sometimes 2 years) following the death. The sculpture is sold on a base. Period second half of the twentieth.
