"Mirror In Walnut Period Late Eighteenth Century"
Directoire period mirror with pyramidal pediment carved with a vase framed by foliage. The frame with four corner spandrels, finely carved around the perimeter of wheat ears and pea pods. Original mercury ice as well as the bottom parquet. Presumably of southern origin, this mirror presents a completely unusual symbolism and decoration, perhaps of Masonic connotation, evoked in particular by the shape of the triangular pediment. This mirror challenges us by asking us to reflect and research in order to decipher its mystery! Good condition: State of age, numerous pitting in the walnut (treatment by suitable product carried out), holes sealed with wax.
