"Paolo Manzoni (c.1825-1906)"Paolo MANZONI (c.1825-1906)
Barbizon School Landscape c1880
An interesting Barbizon School landscape of a lone figure on a track probably in the Fontainebleau Forest southeast of Paris. The Barbizon School was active roughly from 1830 through to 1890. It takes its name from the village of Barbizon where there was an artists’ colony. Signed bottom right, inscribed verso on the stretcher and presented in a stylish Watts frame.
Paolo Manzoni is often referred to as P or Paul Manzoni in art reference books, but they all appear to be by the same person. The York Art gallery holds an example of his work in their collection.
In good bright original condition. The frame has minor losses.
