"Museum. French Historical Wooden Carved Mold: Cake For The Peace! 1815"
Very large mold, beech wood carved in low relief, upside and backside, of two deeply hollowed out
oval medallions, marked in French: “Paix de l'Europe, 1815, Elle doit Plaire”. Treaty of Paris, 1815.
A figure under flowered hat carrying an olive branch puts his arms on one side, on the other face,
an antique warrior, arms and flags thrown to the ground, makes the sun smile.
The subject, treated in a jubilant way, shows a lot about the sufferings endured by the incessant
Napoleonic wars.
Dimensions: 32cm x 28cm x 4cm. Weight: 2.3kg.
Good condition, large and very decorative piece, the mold was used, wormholes in the sapwood on the edge,
beautiful patina, no flaws.
