A bold, striking, vibrant still life, of apples on an orange tablecloth, by the Latvian artist Teodors Uldrikis. Signed, dated 1966 and inscribed on an exhibition label verso.
Teodors Uldrikis was born in Liepāja a port city on Latvia’s west coast. He studied art from an early age and was a member of the LLMVB and the Latvian SSR Artists’ Union. From 1945 he worked as an artist for the newspaper Komunists. His art was expressive and characterised by dynamic wide brush strokes, intense contrasting colours and simplified stylized drawing. The decorative appeal of his work increased over the years due to him using a brighter lighter colour palette. He had both solo and joint exhibitions of his work in Latvia with memorial exhibitions in 1975, 1985 and 1993.
In excellent original bright condition. The artist’s name on the label verso has been wrongly translated as Uldritis.
