"Mahogany Commode Consulate Period In The Taste Of Molitor - Gilded Mercury Bronzes"
Large chest of drawers in flamed mahogany veneer. Beautiful decoration of patinated and gilded bronzes: busts of an antique woman with visible breasts, palmettes, handles with Bacchus masks. Our dresser is topped with a veined white marble with inverted molding and opens with 3 large drawers. It is based on patinated bronze-like feet (front in claws and posterior in rosary). Very fine production from the Consulate period around 1800. Beautiful model typical of the Consulate period, in the so-called Return from Egypt style, fashionable at the very end of the 18th century and in the 1800s. This style is "l ' Antechamber "of the Empire style: it is still borrowed from the 18th century, resolutely turned towards antiquity with an" archaeological "will. Our dresser is a beautiful production of a follower of Bernard Molitor largely inspired by his style. We sold a year ago a very similar Molitor chest of drawers http://www.gslr-antiques.com/boutique/meubles/commode-acajou-consulat-attribuee-molitor.php this one has the same structure, bronzes very similar but it is veneered on fir and walnut. Impeccable workmanship (beautiful dovetail assemblies), superb materials: flamed mahogany arranged in a water jet, beautiful trim of finely chiseled bronzes and gilded with mercury, luxury marble (white with reverse molding), locks with functional clover with key. The dresser received a complete restoration with real buffer varnish applied several times. It is superb and in perfect condition. Beautiful collector's item. The central lock replaced with its key, the other 2 drawers with a functional trefoil lock. The marble top has a small old stain. Interesting detail, we feel by stroking it with the hand the traces of the manual cut with a wet saw: the surface of the marble is slightly "wavy" on the top, rough below. So many qualities that will delight the amateur. Height: 83cm Width: 126.5cm Depth: 58.5cm
