"Rifle Of Bodyguards From The King's Military House, First Model, 1814, Restoration."
RIFLE GUARDS OF THE KING'S MILITARY HOUSE, FIRST MODEL, 1814, RESTORATION. Eight-sided barrel with thunder, stamped with Inspector Pacne, 1st controller Bouny and reviser Le Fevre, length 1.026 m, with the tail 1.09 m. Caliber 17 mm. The engravings of the gun to the Arms of France are extremely faded but visible. The bluing is largely attenuated, there are only a few tiny traces of gold in the background of the engravings and on the hallmarks. The inscription "Gardes-du-corps du Roi" has been removed. Tail of breech with recess. Walnut frame with a long shaft carved on the butt of an oval punch "MC" surmounted by a crown. All brass fittings attached to the frame by steel springs. Brass sub-guard cut in the shape of an engraved fleur-de-lys. Buttplate marked "N 64" with return ending in an engraved fleur-de-lis shape. The screws for the stage, counter-stage, sub-guard and butt plate are made of chiseled-head steel. Drum turntable signed "Manufre Rle de Charleville". Iron rod. Total length of the weapon: 1,434 m. Very good state of conservation except for the barrel which has lost its colors and a large part of its engravings. France. Restoration. Provenance: Charles Marchal.
